They Called Me Crazy... But I Did It Anyway.

Updated: Jul 17, 2024

It all started at the mention of a marriage proposal. Soon after, I packed my bags and made a beeline for the UK with my best friend.

People said I was crazy and that the right thing to do was to use my shiny qualification, start my journalism career and settle down in what seemed to be a perfect life. But I chased after my travel dreams and landed in London, initially without plans, a place to stay, or a job. Within three years, I expanded my horizons and, ironically enough, met my husband, with whom I’d satisfied my wanderlust, seen significant parts of the world, and been married for thirteen years.

After London, the right thing to do was pay off the mortgage on our property, but they called us crazy when we went ahead and used all our savings backpacking through East Africa and parts of Southeast Asia before teaching English in Thailand for a year.

At thirty, people called me crazy when I enrolled for a teaching degree and, in turn, sacrificed a managerial paycheck for a starter teaching position, which barely covered my commute to work.

And, for many people, the prospect of throwing myself full-time into my content writing side hustle after a solid twelve-year teaching career seemed somewhat crazy, but guess what?

I did it anyway!

Why am I telling you this?

Because risking the plunge always proved to be the biggest payoff for my life at that moment, and that is why I now have so many stories to share. Because success and fulfilment look different to everyone, many will never understand your level of craziness. And guess what? It’s OK, and you’ll be fine. Also, it’s perfectly OK to change your outlook, shift your focus, get a new passion, start over, make the change and admit when things don’t turn out as planned.

If you

  • recently jumped into a new business adventure and need a hand at writing your socials,

  • are stuck in a content rut,

  • want to revive your brand messaging or

  • need your purpose to shine through your blogs, social posts, and website.

Then I’m your person in writing.

I’ve been there, done that, and got the paperwork, but more importantly, I celebrate the new beginnings and welcome the unchartered terrains that come with choosing to live life on your terms.

Never put your purpose on hold; contact me, and let’s get your story out there.

Xx Je'nine R.
